Help Support a 130 Family Through a Health Crisis

A member of our P.S. 130 community needs our help. Parent of a rising 3rd grader and teacher Suzanna Riordan is dealing with some very serious health issues. She has been without work for some time while going through a major health crisis, and now will be in the hospital for at least the next 6 weeks.

In an ordinary year she’d be prepping to teach. Her immediate care results in the loss of that income, as well as the additonal costs  that occur when a parent is hospitalized.

If you are able, please consider donating via the GoFundMe page set up for the family, which you can find clicking here

Donating EBT Card Funds
Over the past few months, every NYC public school student has received $420 in food benefits through the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. Because NYC offers free universal lunch, all one million NYC public school students received these food benefit funds, regardless of need. It comes in the form of an EBT card—or as funds added to an existing card.

We are asking families, who are financially able, to consider redistributing these funds by making a tax-deductible donation in the amount of $420 to the PS 130 PTA Annual Appeal, which is the PTA’s single largest source of funding. You can make the contribution here.

Our Annual Appeal is even more crucial in the 2020/2021 school year because of increased need to support students and families, faculty, and administrators in a year of unprecedented challenges. Additionally, we are unable to hold our traditional fundraising events such as our annual Fall Fest and Winter Bazaar.

Please read the following FAQ for more information on how to receive these benefits. Click here to make a tax-deductible donation of a portion or all of this money to the PS 130 PTA Annual Appeal.

With deep thanks,

FAQS

When and how will I receive this benefit?

Benefits are issued automatically—you do not need to do anything! If you do not currently receive SNAP, a temporary card with a value of $420 will be mailed to you, beginning in early July. (Families participating in SNAP/Public Assistance will see credits added to current EBT cards, in two payments, throughout June.)

What is the Coronavirus Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer Program and why am I receiving these funds?

You can read more about the program here

What if I didn’t receive a card?

Fill out this form online.

What should I do when I receive my card?

Spend it! Cards can be used at grocery stores, convenience stores, and some greenmarkets. A list of eligible food items can be found here.  Even if you don’t feel you need this financial assistance, using these funds helps put money back into the local community. Then, if you are able, make a donation of all or part of the $420 you received to the PS 130 PTA Annual Appeal.

Can I just donate my card?

No. These benefits are non-transferrable and must be used by the person who receives them. You can click here to donate directly to the PS 130 PTA.
