Dear P.S. 130 family:
Our fourth PTA Read-a-Thon will be held Friday January 13 through Friday January 27, 2016. This fun contest raises money to provide important resources directly to our school, including growing our early childhood library, supporting author visits and more! Last year we raised over $5,000 – we’re hoping to earn even more this year!!
Here’s how it works:
January 2-13: Gather sponsors on the attached pledge sheet. Sponsors can pledge a per minute amount (1 cent, 10 cents, 25 cents, etc) per minute read, or a total amount ($10, $25, $50, etc), or a per minute amount with a cap (for example, 10 cents per minute up to $50 total).
January 13-27: Read!!! Parents, please help your child keep track of the minutes read outside of school each day during the Read-a-Thon on the attached log sheet. You can count minutes your child reads independently, or reading together or aloud to your child. Minutes read for homework count. Only count minutes read during the Read-a-Thon days, outside of school. Please use a watch or timer – don’t guess!
January 28-Feb 4: Collect pledge amounts from your sponsors.
February 1-7: Return the reading log, pledge sheet, and collected funds to the PTA. You can also submit the payment by paypal (go to the PTA website, www.ps130pta.org, for more information). Please turn in your pledge form and log even if you pay by paypal, so we know how many minutes your child read.
We’ll have gift certificates for the top three readers, and the class that reads the most minutes combined will win a special prize.
We also have two special events planned to celebrate a love of reading. Click here to find out more and download reading logs and pledge sheets!
