After School

Working with the administration and parent community, this committee will work to support and enhance options for after school care and enrichment activities for all PS 130 students.

Art & Art Box Program

The Art Committee’s main efforts are: providing materials and volunteers for art projects linked to units of study in every classroom, grades K-5, and supporting PS 130’s art teacher, Kirsten Ator, and the Annual US Student Art Show in the Spring.

We also maintain the Art Box program in K-2 classrooms. Art Box is an volunteer-run initiative that provides art materials of all kinds for children to use to create during choice time.

While our efforts are currently on pause as the staff and students at PS 130 get acclimated to the new routines, volunteers are still very much needed. There’s no need for an art or teaching background!

Events

The Events Committee helps plan, organize and oversee events that both raise funds for initiatives and programs of the PS 130 PTA and build community inside the school and the community at large.

Historically, major events have included a very popular Fall Fest, a Winter Bazaar, Talent Show, Music Festival, Spring Auction and End of Year Dance.

We are exploring ideas for socially-distanced and virtual events that can raise money and foster community in the 2020/2021 school year, and need your help! Please send ideas or offer to volunteer!

We have many volunteer opportunities including: planning, brainstorming, grant-writing, fundraising, collaborating with administration, gardening, building, and transporting. No gardening experience is necessary! Contact: Anne Mignatti or Siobhan Thomas-Bupphavesa

Grant Writing

The PS 130 Grant Writing Committee works with the PTA and school administration to identify school needs and sources of external support to reach our goals. We have a great group of Grant Writing Committee members for the 2017-18 school year and we are always looking for more!
Whether you can commit a little or a lot, we welcome you. Experience with grant writing or professional writing is helpful but not necessary; anyone with enthusiasm is invited!

Music Committee

The Music Committee partners with teachers by offering materials and enrichment to enhance units of study. We bring visiting musicians to the school, produce performances, and provide music at school events during the school year. (This year we are adapting our mission as much as we can, moving many efforts online.)

PS 130 teaches music in the classroom as an essential and vital part of its mission.  All students receive some level of general music instruction including keyboard study, recorder study and music fundamentals; electives include guitar club and band.

Do you want to join us in our goal to further the musical culture at PS130? No musical ability is necessary- just a love of music! To join the music committee, contact Philippa Thompson, Carol Wei or Chris Hiatt on Konstella or email us at [email protected]!

Note! The Music Committee is also responsible for the official PS 130 School Spirit Song,  “PS 130 Everybody Smiles”, created by its members in 2015.

You Can Listen, Sing Along, and Play Along by downloading:

PS 130 Everybody Smiles Song
PS130 School Song Lyrics
PS130 School Song Sheet Music

Second and fourth grade students premiered the song at the Winter Concert and Winter Bazaar in December of 2016. The school’s music teachers Mr Arnold and Ms Sorenson have been teaching the song to their students in music class, and classroom teachers will share it with students from all grade levels. We’re proud to share it here for your enjoyment.

The school that sings together learns together! Please sing our school song and take pride in our diverse and vibrant community.
